We begin this week’s “RUFF TAILS” featuring a beautiful 9-month-old Lab mix named Rosie.
Rosie (on the left) is as sassy as they come. Nine months old with a ton of high energy. She loves her fur sibling and humans to death. All this girl wants is lots of love and treats.

Thank you, Paul, for coming out and helping us turn her sassy high energy attitude into calm and positive energy.

Initial symptoms of distemper in K9’s will often include nasal and eye discharge, decreased appetite and maybe coughing.

The nasal and eye discharge is usually yellow and green in colour. If your K9 seems less interested in eating and appears to be withdrawn and lethargic we recommend a quick trip to your vet.

For a more severe case of canine distemper your dog may experience seizures, head tilt, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Some K9’s may experience neurological signs which includes stumbling, head tilt and even paralysis. Some K9’s may even get hardened footpads.

Distemper symptoms can vary from mild to life-threatening. Distemper can weaken the immune system, making your K9 more susceptible to secondary bacterial infections.

Early diagnosis and treatment are key. Remember distemper can be confused with other viral or bacterial infections, therefore it is crucial to consult your veterinarian for a diagnosis.
