We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and had a wonderful Easter. Thank you to everyone who entered our Easter Basket Giveaway.

This week we will continue with our K9 Trivia, as so many of you did so well on last week’s trivia.

 True or False?

1.   Dogs can search an area 4 x faster than a human?

2.   Smaller dog breeds mature faster and tend to live longer?

3.   Dogs are NOT colour-blind?

4.   All puppies are born deaf?

5.   Rin Tin Tin, was a famous German Shepherd that was nominated for an Academy Award?

(if you answer “TRUE” to all the above, you are correct!!!)

Welcome to Doggie Dialogue

Loss of appetite, vomiting, sneezing, difficulty breathing, weight loss or gain, bleeding gums, bad breath, coughing, lethargy and behavioural changes can all be signs of early onset of K9 diseases.

These signs can indicate a possible underlying health issue and maybe require a quick veterinarian check up.

In puppies you may see thickened paw pads, head tilt, fever, green or yellow discharge and decreased appetite.

Puppies and older K9’s can get infectious diseases. The signs to watch for are runny eyes, snotty nose, diarrhea and vomiting.

The signs for canine parvovirus, are depression, abdominal pain and bloating, severe bloody diarrhea and lethargy.

Puppies are more susceptible has they have a weaker immune system. Parvovirus can be fatal.

Many K9 diseases are highly contagious, especially in social settings like dog parks, over-night kennels, K9 doggie day care etc…..

Early detection is key. Pay close attention to any changes in their behaviour, energy levels or physical appearance. Consult your vet if you notice any concerning signs.

We recommend using preventive measures by keeping their living space clean, limit their exposure to sick animals especially puppies and vaccinate your K9 against common diseases.
