We begin this week’s “RUFF TAILS” featuring a beautiful 4-year-old Beagle named Milo.

Milo is a bundle of energy and personality wrapped in fur.

He is friendly, loves to wag his tail, enjoys the outdoors, food and sleeping in.

Welcome to Doggie Dialogue

We have been asked many times about this subject matter, and yes there is common names when it comes to all pets. Many times, the children in the family chose the name of the household pets.

For example, several dogs were named after “Frozen” characters after the movie came out. For example, there are a few more “Olaf’s” out there. LOL.

Other K9 names will come from TV series, movies, books or current events which may include names such as Ken & Barbie, (from the Barbie movie), Bruno (from Encanto, Disney film), and Simba (from the Lion King).

Paul and I have fallen into this category as some of the most common K9 names, have been our dogs, Jax and Daisy. Both names are in the top 10 of the most common K9 names.

Did you know dogs have an easier time hearing hard consonants and long vowels, so a name like Benny or Lucky will be easier for them to distinguish from other sounds.

We recommend a one or two-syllable name that you can say quickly. It is often recommended to avoid male dog names that sound like a command, such as “Kit” which can sound like “sit”.

Among the most common K9 names are as follows: For females these are the favourites Luna, Bella, Lucy, Daisy, Sadie. For males the most popular are Charlie, Max, Cooper, Milo, and Buddy.

Other popular K9 names for 2025 are Bailey, Rocky, Leo, Teddy and Duke. Believe it or not, over the years of our K9 training, we have met each one of these dog names above, sometimes even a few Maxes and Jaxes. We have meant a few Bella’s and Luna’s as well.

All beautiful names, but what we have found is that “name” seems to be the perfect fit for the personality of the dog, and I couldn’t imagine our “Jax” beginning called anything different.

As for Police Dogs names, there can be similar names as well. We have met more than one Apollo, Odin, Kota, Nitro, Vixen, Thor, and Rogue over the years.

Enjoy your K9 and their beautiful name as long as you can, as they have a shorter life span.
