Welcome to Doggie Dialogue

All dogs will experience vomiting or diarrhea at some point throughout their lives. So, when is it time to consult your vet?

If your K9 is experiencing frequent vomiting and diarrhea, which contains blood and is accompanied by loss of appetite or lethargy then please consult your vet.

If you have a senior dog or puppy persistent diarrhea or vomiting for more than 12-24 hours will warrant an immediate vet attention.

Three or more vomiting episodes within a 24-hour period can lead to dehydration.

If your K9 refuses to eat for more than one meal, this could indicate a problem.

If your K9 is crying, yelping, or showing signs of pain when touched, especially around the abdomen, seek veterinary assistance.

Some K9 with pre-existing health conditions, such as diabetes or kidney disease, may experience complications from diarrhea or vomiting and we recommend going to your vet immediately.

When waiting for your vet to get back to you, it is recommended to withhold food for a few hours to allow the stomach and intestines to rest. It is also important to frequently offer small sips of water to help prevent dehydration.

When in doubt or unsure, always phone or email your veterinarian for a expert opinion.
